Contest Rules
1. General Terms
1.1 Scope. These General Contest Rules (“General Rules”) apply to every contest run by Treese Media Group LLC, 34 N 4th Street, Reading, PA 19601, which operates radio station WEEU (together, the “Station”). A contest may also have its own rules (“Specific Rules”). Where the two conflict, the Specific Rules control for that contest.
1.2 Definitions. An “Entrant” is anyone who submits a valid entry. A “Sponsor” is any business that provides a prize or co-sponsors a contest. A “Qualifier” is an Entrant chosen to advance to a later round, a finalist pool or a grand prize drawing. The “Website” is https://www.weeuradio.com.
1.3 Material terms. For every contest, the Station will disclose these material terms fully and accurately:
-
How to enter or participate.
-
Eligibility restrictions.
-
Entry deadlines and the dates and times of the entry period.
-
Whether prizes can be won, and when.
-
The nature, extent and approximate retail value (“ARV”) of each prize, and how the value was determined.
-
The time and method of selecting winners.
-
Tie-breaking procedures.
1.4 Where material terms are disclosed. The Station will disclose material terms by broadcasting them periodically, by posting them on the Website, or both. When terms are posted online:
-
They will be posted on a free, publicly accessible page of the Website that requires no registration or login.
-
They will be easy to find, through a clearly labeled “Contests” link on the Website’s home page.
-
The Station will periodically announce on air that complete contest rules are available on the Website, including the web address.
-
They will remain posted for at least 30 days after the contest ends.
Contest announcements on social media, by text, on printed materials or at events are promotional only. They do not replace the rules posted on the Website.
1.5 Conduct. The Station will conduct each contest substantially as announced. Contest descriptions, including on-air announcements, will not be false, misleading or deceptive about any material term.
1.6 Questions. Email info@treesemediagroup.com or write to the mailing address above.
2. Eligibility
2.1 Age and residency. Unless the Specific Rules say otherwise, Entrants must be 18 or older and legal residents of the United States on the date of entry.
2.2 Entrants aged 14 to 17. Specific Rules may open a contest to Entrants 14 or older. If a minor wins, a parent or legal guardian must accept the prize and sign all required documents, and is treated as the winner for legal and tax purposes. Minors may not enter contests that require Entry Materials (Section 5.3), or contests on a social media platform that does not allow users their age.
2.3 Who cannot enter. These people are not eligible, even if they meet Sections 2.1 and 2.2:
-
Employees (full-time, part-time or temporary) of Treese Media Group, the Station, any Sponsor, any advertising or promotion agency involved in the contest, and any of their parents, subsidiaries or affiliates, including affiliated radio stations.
-
Immediate family members of those employees: current spouses, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws and step-relatives in any of these categories.
-
Anyone living in the same household as those employees, whether or not related.
2.4 Frequency limit. Unless the Specific Rules say otherwise, a person may win only one Station prize every 30 days, and only one prize per household every 30 days. Prizes with an ARV of $500 or more are limited to one per person and per household every 90 days.
2.5 Verification. Eligibility may be verified at any time. An Entrant found ineligible will be disqualified and any prize forfeited.
3. How to Enter: On-Air Contests
3.1 No purchase necessary. NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE OR PAYMENT WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING. Every method of entry is equally free and gives an equal chance of winning.
3.2 Streaming delay. The Station’s online stream runs several seconds to several minutes behind the over-the-air broadcast. Listeners using the stream may be at a disadvantage in contests that require responding to a broadcast cue. Listen over the air for the best chance.
3.3 Contest phone number. Only calls to the contest phone number announced for that contest count. Calls to the Station’s main line or any other number will not be accepted.
3.4 Designated caller contests. The Station will announce a cue to call, the contest phone number, the caller position that wins (for example, “caller 5”), and the prize. When you hear the cue, call the announced number. The caller who reaches the designated position and completes the call wins, subject to eligibility.
-
If the designated caller is disconnected or ineligible, the next eligible caller who completes the call wins.
-
If fewer calls than the designated position are received within 15 minutes of the cue, the Station will award the prize to the last eligible caller received, unless the Specific Rules state a different outcome.
3.5 Song of the Day contests. The Station will announce the song and artist (or combination of songs), the days and time ranges when a play counts, and the designated caller position.
-
Calls are taken once the song begins, or once the last song in a required combination begins.
-
A play counts only if the full song by the announced artist airs within an announced time range. Clips, hooks, promos and commercials do not count.
-
If the announcement says only the first qualifying play of the day counts, later plays that day do not.
-
The Station will not share play times, song schedules or other contest information with any group that it does not broadcast or post publicly.
3.6 Listen for your name contests. If your name is announced as a potential winner, you must call the announced number within the announced time window. Only the person who actually entered may claim the prize. Someone with the same name who did not enter will be disqualified.
4. How to Enter: Online, Social Media and Text Contests
4.1 Online entry forms. Visit the Website (or another site named in the Specific Rules), follow the contest link, and submit a complete entry form during the entry period. The form may ask for contact information and may include survey questions, trivia, predictions or Entry Materials (Section 5.3).
4.2 Code word contests. Listen for the announced code word, then enter it on the contest’s entry form on the Website or on the assigned social media platform within the announced entry period.
4.3 Bonus entries. Specific Rules may offer bonus entries for completing a survey, joining a free Station club, or referring a friend who enters validly. The Specific Rules will state the maximum number of bonus entries. You earn no bonus for a friend who was already referred by someone else. Bonus entries are never offered for a purchase, or for sharing on a platform whose rules prohibit it.
4.4 X contests. Post on X from a public account, including both the contest’s announced hashtag and the Station’s official X handle. Posts missing either, or using a different hashtag or handle, are not entries.
4.5 Instagram and Facebook contests. Post as instructed in the Specific Rules with the contest’s announced hashtag. Instagram posts are exempt from the file-format requirement in Section 5.3.
4.6 Social media platforms. Instagram, Facebook, X and any other social platform used in a contest (each a “Platform”) do not sponsor, endorse or administer the contest and are not associated with it. By entering, you fully release every Platform from any liability related to the contest. Information you submit goes to the Station, not to the Platform. Entering through a Platform lets the Station use the relevant parts of your public profile to complete your entry. Platform employees and their immediate families may not enter.
4.7 Text contests. Text the announced keyword to the Station’s announced short code within the announced entry period. Messages sent to any other number, with a different keyword, or with no keyword are not entries.
-
You may receive one automated reply confirming your entry. Entering does not enroll you in marketing messages.
-
Standard message and data rates may apply. The Station does not charge for entry. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
-
Separate marketing text programs require your express opt-in. Text HELP for help and STOP to cancel.
-
If a designated text position (for example, the 100th text) is not reached within the announced period, the prize will be awarded as the Specific Rules state.
4.8 Third-party contest platforms. Some contests use a third-party entry platform (“Software Provider”). You may need a free account and to accept the provider’s terms. Those terms are separate from these rules, and these rules control if they conflict. Employees of the Software Provider and their immediate families are ineligible.
4.9 Identity disputes. If there is a dispute over who submitted an online, social or text entry, the Entrant is the person who can log in to the account used, or who owns the phone number used.
5. Other Contest Types and Entry Materials
5.1 On-site and entry box contests. Complete an official entry form by hand at the announced location and deposit it in the official entry box before the announced deadline. Mechanical reproductions are not accepted. Forms are available at the entry box location. If forms run out, a handwritten entry on a 3×5 card with the same information will be accepted. Incomplete or illegible entries may be disqualified.
5.2 Event contests. When Entrants or Qualifiers must attend an event, they must check in by the announced time and follow staff instructions. Participants may be asked to show a valid government-issued photo ID and sign a release. If an event is rescheduled, the new date will be announced on air and posted on the Website at least 24 hours in advance where possible. The Station may also notify Qualifiers directly. The Station is not liable if a Qualifier cannot attend a rescheduled event.
5.3 Entry Materials (essays, photos and videos). For contests requiring Entry Materials, Entrants must be 18 or older and must own or have permission to use everything submitted. Unless the Specific Rules say otherwise:
-
Content standards. Entry Materials may not be indecent, obscene, sexually explicit, threatening, harassing, defamatory, hateful, or offensive on the basis of race, ethnicity or any other protected trait. They may not encourage unlawful conduct, infringe any intellectual property, or disclose another person’s private information. Incidental logos on clothing or in the background will not disqualify an entry. The Station may blur or cover them.
-
Essays. Essays should not exceed the stated word limit. Only the words within the limit will be judged.
-
Photos. Uploads must be in .jpg or .jpeg format. Only the Entrant may be identifiable in the photo unless the Specific Rules allow others, such as family photos. Any other identifiable person must have given permission, and the Entrant must be able to provide it on request.
-
Videos. Only the Entrant may be identifiable unless the Specific Rules allow others. Videos may not contain copyrighted music, video or artwork the Entrant does not have rights to use.
-
Technical issues. Entries the Station cannot open or view may be disqualified.
-
Featured entries. The Station may post entries online for entertainment. Being featured does not mean an entry has won or will win.
5.4 Voting contests. Unless the Specific Rules say public votes decide the winner, votes are for entertainment only. The Specific Rules will state exactly how votes are weighed, if at all.
-
Automated, scripted or bot voting and entry are prohibited. Votes or entries produced this way will be voided.
-
The Station may use cookies and other tools to detect automated activity.
-
The Station may end text voting early by posting notice on the Website at least 24 hours in advance and announcing it on air.
6. Winners and Prizes
6.1 Selecting winners. The Specific Rules will state when and how winners are chosen, whether by caller position, random drawing or judging. For random drawings, odds depend on the number of eligible entries received. For judged contests, the Specific Rules will list the judging criteria and their weight.
6.2 Ties. Unless the Specific Rules state another method, ties in judged or skill contests are broken by a random drawing among the tied Entrants. The tie-breaking method will always be stated in the Specific Rules before the contest begins.
6.3 Notification and claiming. Potential winners of non-live contests will be notified by phone or email within 7 days of selection. A potential winner must respond within 3 business days of notification and claim the prize within 30 days of notification. A prize not claimed in time is forfeited, and the Station may select an alternate winner using the same method.
6.4 Verification and documents. Before receiving a prize, a winner may be required to show a valid government-issued photo ID and sign a release and affidavit of eligibility. For prizes that require tax reporting, a completed Form W-9 or other tax form is required. Social Security numbers are requested only when needed for tax reporting.
6.5 Prize descriptions. The Specific Rules or on-air announcement will describe each prize and its ARV. The Station will award prizes as described. Prizes cannot be exchanged for cash, substituted, transferred or sold without written approval from the Station. If an announced prize becomes unavailable for reasons beyond the Station’s control, the Station will substitute a prize of equal or greater value.
6.6 Unauthorized resale or transfer. A winner who sells or transfers a prize without written approval may be disqualified, have the prize forfeited or invalidated, and be barred from future contests.
6.7 Travel prizes. Unless the Specific Rules say otherwise, travel prizes include round-trip coach airfare from a commercial airport near the Station and standard double-occupancy lodging. Travel is subject to availability, blackout dates and restrictions set by the travel providers, and must be completed on the dates stated in the Specific Rules. The winner and guests must travel on the same itinerary and are responsible for their own travel documents, ground transportation, meals, incidentals and anything not listed as included. Guests may need to sign a release. A credit card may be required at hotel check-in.
6.8 Gift cards and certificates. Gift cards and certificates are subject to the issuer’s terms, including expiration dates and redemption locations.
6.9 Event cancellations. If a prize event is canceled, rescheduled or delayed by its organizer, the Station will pass along any replacement or refund the organizer provides. The Station is not otherwise responsible for replacement.
6.10 Taxes. Winners are responsible for all federal, state and local taxes on the ARV of their prizes. The Station will issue IRS Form 1099 where required by law.
7. Changes, Releases and Legal Terms
7.1 Changes to a contest. Once a contest is announced, the Station will not make a material change except as described here. Any change will be posted on the Website within 24 hours. For the rest of the contest, the Station will also announce periodically on air that the terms have changed and where to find them. A change will never reduce the chances of anyone who entered before it.
7.2 Cancellation or suspension. If a contest cannot run as planned for reasons beyond the Station’s control, the Station may suspend, end or modify it. Examples include technical failure, fraud, tampering, severe weather, or a Sponsor’s inability to provide a prize. Any such action will be announced under Section 7.1. If a contest ends early, winners will be chosen from the eligible entries received before it ended, using the announced method where possible.
7.3 Disqualification. The Station may disqualify anyone who tampers with a contest, enters fraudulently, or violates these rules. It may bar them from future contests.
7.4 Decisions. The Station’s decisions about the interpretation of these rules and the conduct of contests are final, provided they are consistent with these rules and applicable law. The Station may choose whether and how to respond to individual questions about entry status.
7.5 Publicity. Except where prohibited by law, entering a contest or accepting a prize gives the Station permission to use the Entrant’s name, hometown (city and state), voice, likeness, Entry Materials and statements about the contest in any medium, without further payment. This permission covers promotion of the Station and its contests.
7.6 Release. By entering a contest or accepting a prize, Entrants and winners (and their guests) release the Station, its Sponsors, the Platforms, and each of their affiliates, employees and agents (“Released Parties”) from claims arising from the contest or from accepting or using a prize. This release does not cover gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any claim the law does not allow to be released.
7.7 Errors and technical problems. The Released Parties are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, illegible or misdirected entries. They are also not responsible for phone, internet or text failures, or for printing and typographical errors. If an error in a rule or announcement causes more prizes to be claimed than announced, the Station will award the announced number of prizes by random drawing among eligible claimants.
7.8 Privacy. Personal information collected through contests is used as described in the Station’s privacy policy.
7.9 Governing law. These rules and all contests are governed by the laws of Pennsylvania. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Contests are void where prohibited and subject to all federal, state and local laws.
7.10 Severability. If any provision of these rules is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
7.11 Winners list. For a list of winners of a specific contest, email info@treesemediagroup.com with the contest name. Requests must be received within 3 months after the contest ends.
