Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 21st, 2026

Who we are

WEEU 99.7 FM and 830 AM is operated by Treese Media Group LLC (“WEEU”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we collect through the WEEU app for iPhone and Android and through weeuradio.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.

We do not sell your information. The app contains no advertising trackers and no outside analytics tools. The app and website send us usage counts, described below, which you can turn off.

What we collect

You can listen, read and browse without an account, and we collect nothing that identifies you when you do. We collect information only when you use the features below.

Monthly IDs: deleted within 35 days.
Tell us about yourself (optional)Your age range, and the first three digits of your ZIP code. Your answers stay on your phone; the app sends only these, with its usage counts, and never with your account.Totals: up to 2 years

A cookie with a random ID that expires at the end of each month lets us count different listeners.Totals: up to 2 years. Monthly IDs: deleted within 35 days.

Approximate location. We work out county, town and ZIP area on our own server, using GeoLite2 data created by MaxMind, available from maxmind.com. Nothing about you is sent to MaxMind, and we don’t keep your IP address.

Location. The app asks for your location only when you tap Use my location on a traffic report, and only while the app is open. It never tracks your location in the background.

Information kept on your phone. The app keeps some information on your device only, and does not send it to us: where you stopped in each podcast episode, what you last played, your appearance setting, and the contact details you last used for a contest, so you don’t have to type them again. A random app ID is created when you first use the app. It is not linked to your phone’s hardware or advertising ID, and we use it only to enforce contest entry limits and spot duplicate traffic reports.

What we don’t collect. We don’t collect your contacts, photos or microphone. We don’t use advertising IDs or track you across other apps and websites. We don’t keep a record of what you listen to. We count, in totals that don’t identify anyone, how often each station and podcast is played, for how long, and roughly where.

How we use it

We use your information only to run the features you chose:

  • To let you message the studio, and to let our on-air staff read and answer your messages. Only you and WEEU staff can see your conversation; other listeners never see it.
  • To send the alerts and reply notifications you turned on. When the studio replies, the start of the reply appears in the notification.
  • To send you the WEEU email newsletter, if you signed up or opted in with a verified email address in the app.
  • To pass traffic reports to the studio so we can check them and warn other listeners. Reports aren’t shown in the app with your name.
  • To run contests: to pick and contact winners, deliver prizes and apply entry limits.
  • To answer messages sent through the contact form, consider job applications, and respond to advertising inquiries.
  • To count how often ads are seen and tapped, so we can report totals to advertisers.
  • To understand which stations, shows, podcasts and features people use, and where our audience is, so we can plan programming and give advertisers audience totals. We never give advertisers information about individual listeners, and we don’t report any group of fewer than five people.
  • To keep the app and website safe: to stop spam and abuse and to block people who break our community guidelines.

We may also use or disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our listeners or staff.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell or rent your information, and we don’t share it with advertisers. We use a few service providers to run the app and website. Each one handles only what it needs for that job.

ProviderWhat it does for usWhat it receives
Google FirebaseApp accounts and studio messagesYour name, email address, password (stored encrypted) and messages
Expo, Apple and GoogleDelivering app notificationsYour notification token and the text of each notification
Constant ContactSending the WEEU email newsletterYour email address, and your name if you gave it
Automattic (Jetpack)Website statistics and securityVisit statistics, including IP address
Live365Streaming WEEU and WEEU GoldYour IP address while you listen, like any audio stream
Podcast hostsPlaying podcast episodesYour IP address while an episode plays
Our website hostRunning weeuradio.com, where your account details, opt-ins, reports, entries and form submissions are storedThe information listed under “What we collect” that isn’t kept only on your phone

Contests. If a sponsor supplies a contest prize, we may give that sponsor the winner’s name and contact details, only so it can deliver the prize or meet legal requirements. We don’t share other entrants’ information.

When you open a link, a news story’s video, or a map from the app, you leave the app, and that site’s own privacy policy applies.

Your choices

  • Notifications. Turn alerts and reply notifications on or off in the app’s Settings, or in your phone’s settings. When you turn both off, we delete your device’s notification token.
  • Location. You can say no, or turn location off for WEEU in your phone’s settings. You can still report traffic by typing the road.
  • Email newsletter. Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any WEEU email, or turn email news off in the app under Account.
  • Usage counts. In the app, turn off Share usage counts in Settings. On the website, click Decline on the cookie notice. To clear your answers about yourself, use About you in the app’s Settings.
  • Cookies. Click Decline on the cookie notice to turn off visit statistics, or block cookies in your browser. See Cookies below.
  • Delete your account. In the app, go to Account → Delete account and enter your password. This immediately deletes your account and sign-in, your conversation with the studio, your contact record and email opt-in, and your newsletter subscription if you joined through the app.

After you delete your account, your device’s notification settings stay but are no longer linked to you. Traffic reports are deleted on their normal 30-day schedule, and contest entries follow the contest’s rules. If your account was blocked for breaking our guidelines, we keep your name and the block on record.

To ask for a copy of your information, or for anything the app doesn’t let you do yourself, contact us using the details below.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. weeuradio.com uses them for four things:

  • Remembering your cookie choice. When you click Accept or Decline on the cookie notice, we save your answer for a year so we don’t ask on every page.
  • Visit statistics. Jetpack, our website toolkit, counts the pages you view, the site that sent you, and your browser and device type, so we know which stories and shows people use. See Automattic’s privacy policy.
  • Counting different listeners. A cookie named weeu_mid holds a random ID that expires at the end of each month, so we can count how many different people visit and listen. It holds nothing else and isn’t connected to anything that identifies you.
  • Staff sign-in. WordPress uses cookies to keep WEEU staff signed in. You won’t get these unless you sign in.

The website player also remembers your volume, the station you chose, and where you stopped in a podcast. That’s saved in your browser only and never sent to us.

If you click Decline, we stop counting your visits in our visit statistics and our usage counts from the next page you open, and remove the monthly listener cookie. Everything else on the site works the same, including listening. To change your answer, clear the cookies for weeuradio.com in your browser and the notice will ask again. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings at any time.

Security

Accounts and messages are stored with Google Firebase, and access rules let only you and WEEU staff read your conversation. Information travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, so use a password you don’t use anywhere else.

Children

The WEEU app and website are for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account or entered a contest, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we’ll update this page and the effective date above. If a change is significant, we’ll also tell you in the app.
