Rich Scarcella

A familiar voice on WEEU, Rich Scarcella serves as the color commentator on the station’s broadcasts of high school basketball. He is also the host of “Nittany Extra,” WEEU’s exclusive Penn State football show, bringing his decades of insight and expertise to listeners each week.

Rich joined the Reading Eagle sports staff in 1986 and has since been one of the region’s most respected sports journalists. He has covered Penn State football since 1989, earning a reputation for in-depth reporting, storytelling and balanced analysis — making him a trusted source for Nittany Lions fans across Pennsylvania.

In addition to his Penn State coverage, Rich reported on high school baseball, golf, volleyball, bowling and college basketball over the years, showcasing his passion for local athletics and the athletes who make our community proud. Before coming to Berks County, Rich began his career with the Standard-Speaker in Hazleton, the city where he was raised.

Away from the press box, Rich is happily married, the proud father of two sons and a very proud new grandfather — a role he absolutely adores.
